C4, aka C-Feezy, was born Carlton Fields in Washington, D.C. The moniker C4 spawned from the rapper’s initials “CF” and gained more significance when the artist used the name metaphorically in his raps to prophesize his success. “I was about to blow up--I always had that mindset,” he said.  As a child, music was always playing in C4’s house. His parents played the Isley Brothers, Mary J Blige, TLC, R. Kelly and others. Some of his many major influences in the rap industry are UGK, 2 Pac, Biggie Smalls, Cash Money, Kanye West, Outkast, Ice Cube, Jay-Z, and Devin the Dude. And although he has a laundry list of musical influences, C4 strives to represent his true self. “I feel like I’m real—I just try to be me,” he said. “I’m not trying to be the hardest, the gangster, the killer, the thug—I just do me...I feel like hip hop is missing that nowadays—I feel like a lot of people are followers when you talk about the game and I’m just trying to lead.” In his music, he tells his story—he speaks about his grind, his drive for success, and becoming more business minded among other things. “The grind is all in my music--It’s all about the grind and my entrepreneurial spirit shows in my music.” He says the song “I’m Ill” released on his latest mixtape “Flight School Volume 1” is his most personal track to date. “I’m a very humble dude—I don’t really speak that much unless I’m on the mic,” he said.  As a youth C4 was more interested in sports: he played basketball, football and ran track as a teen. Now he’s bringing his deep-seated passion for music to the forefront and letting his talent shine. He got his start rapping in 2001 through a high school friend—Dakota, aka Kool Kota, who is now C4’s producer. For fun, C4 would join Kool Kota in the studio whenever he was there and collaborate on projects with Fuqwon Promotions and whoever was in the studio. During his time in the studio, C4 was able to build confidence as an artist, but it wasn’t until 2005 that he began to take making music seriously. “A lot of people liked what I was putting out—they made me feel like I could make a career out of it,” he said. “They liked my flow...they liked my punch lines and swag on the mic—that kind of stuff came naturally to me.” From there C4 began to make his own songs and develop as an artist. C4 is trying to create his own lane in the music industry—and for an artist with the drive and motivation that he has—the sky is the limit. In April, he founded InTheAir Entertainment, an organization that promotes fashion, parties, music and other showcases. He is the CEO of the company and a feature artist. C4 also has another mixtape “High Speed Living” under his belt and is already working on his EP, as well as the mixtapes “Stacks on the Grill,” and “Flight School Volume 2.” Be on the lookout for C4!
