Bay: Hey Shaya, how are you? I know this interview has been long overdue, so what’s been going on with you?
Shaya: Hey what up Bay! I’m doing fantastic hun. I have been working on quite a bit….Building up my businesses and teams, encouraging friends and grind partners…just goin hard and staying busy!
Bay: What first got you interested in the music and entertainment business?
Shaya: I have always had a deep love for music. Especially neosoul, old school music, and alternative music styles…anything out of the box. I kinda got sucked into it lol…because of my networking and way with people I just fell into the business of it all.
Bay: I see that you have your hands in several businesses right now, Tell everyone about DA N Crowd, Rhinosilver Entertainment, and Fuqwon Promotions and your inspiration behind these companies.
Shaya: Da N Crowd is a intra-networking website for on the rise djays, producers, and independent artists. Inspiration for the site is the desire to put the spotlight on the hot new talent across the country that keeps the music industry going…but is often overlooked and over charged.
RhinoSilver Entertainment is a new company whose goal is to put on major industry level shows and high exposure high visibility event is smaller areas. We are currently building teams nationwide and offering people the opportunity to build and get money with us. We have opportunities for business/business-minded people, managers, independent artists, promoters/event coordinators, and people just looking to generate some extra income. Inspiration for this is basically putting people in the driver seat of their own careers and making them REAL bosses…getting paid and helping others get paid while doing what they love.
Fuqwon Promotions LLC is my and my partners baby business. Built from idea to growing success it is now. Inspiration for Fuqwon Promotions is to open doors and provide exposure avenues that may be harder to reach alone. Everything works better and goes farther with a strong team and we aim to be that team.
Bay: What keeps you motivated?
Shaya: Knowing that I have certain people counting on me and looking up to me keeps me motivated…HIGHLY MOTIVATED lol. I hardly do things for myself…because I know that in the process of working to help others become great I will by default rise with them.
Bay: I lived in Newport News / Hampton, Va for some years and I know a lot has changed since 2004,so how would you describe the music scene now and what Independent artist or artists coming out of the DMV area, do you feel that everyone should be paying attention to and supporting?
Shaya: Wow…well I just recently got swirled up into the music scene of the DMV. The talent pool here is EXCEPTIONALLY deep. To be honest the people go hard but they go hard alone…the music scene here needs more unity and team support. Everyone cant rap. Some have to manage. Some have to produce. Some have to promote and market. Everyone needs to embrace their roles so there can be a UNIFIED rise and the talent, passion, and force of the DMV can be truly seen and felt nation/worldwide.
As for artist I feel everyone should be paying attention to: Kartel Kobain (VA), Ja Gutta (VA), VangoSoze (DC), C4 ForeverMusik (MD), Young Skillz (DC), A. Driver (VA), Red Carpet Club (VA)…and a few others…
Bay: What impact do you expect to have left on the game in 10 years?
Shaya: I hope that the loyalty, honesty, professionalism, and consistency with which I continuously conduct business spreads like wildfire. I want people to see or work with me and my teams and adopt the way we carry things, make them better, and carry them forward. I hope that I come in contact with/helped enough people, and helped build up enough careers and businesses to be known as a serious and major industry point of contact. I just hope to be a person that when someone wants to get to the top with some help…that without a doubt I am the FIRST person they look to seek out.
Bay: If you weren’t in the music business what would you be doing?
Shaya: Well I am in the military (US Navy 11 years!)…so I figure I would just be serving my country and working on my degree. I do plan to get it in entertainment business once these current businesses running on their own smoothly.
Bay: One last question I’m dying to know cause you always grinding and working hard. What can we look forward from you and your companies for the remainder of 2010 and in 2011?
Shaya: My teams and I are all already heavy into the 2011 grind mode. We don’t NEED a new years resolution to get it poppin! You can look forward to RhinoSilver launching major events, putting music videos and shows on cable tv, and advertising/marketing on a large nationwide scale. You can look forward to some of the hottest models, music artists, venues, and non-profit causes having their promotions powered by Fuqwon Promotions, LLC. And you can look forward getting professional, in-depth, behind the talent insight of the nation’s BEST up and coming next to blow artists, producers, and djays from Da N Crowd.
