Released on January 11, 2011, and considered a crucial piece of the trap music landscape, Future's breakout project elevated him through crowded Atlanta trap scene while also introduced the world to his Auto-Tune, melodic and street rap style. Hosted by DJ Scream, DJ X-Rated and DJ Esco, the title is a reference to lean which is a recreational drink of mixing prescription-grade cough or cold syrup containing an opioid drug and an antihistamine drug with a soft drink and sometimes hard candy. With production being held down by Mike WiLL Made-It, Zaytoven, and Sonny Digital, it felt more like a debut album than a mixtape.
