Classic Mixtape Run: Young Jeezy - Trap Or Die

Trap or Die, widely regarded as one of the first trap mixtapes, was released in January 2005. Jeezy, in collaboration with DJ Drama, transformed this project into a cultural phenomenon that catapulted the Gangsta Grillz brand to unprecedented levels of street credibility. This groundbreaking work not only elevated Young Jeezy from a regional Atlanta favorite to a national superstar but also solidified his status as a local legend. Despite the looming threat of incarceration or death, Jeezy envisioned this project as a means to leave an indelible mark on the music industry. The iconic Snowman logo, so prevalent on the streets, even led to schools banning it due to Jeezy’s references to the drug trade. This persona perfectly encapsulated Jeezy’s rise to fame. Shawty Redd, the producer for most of the mixtape, crafted hits like “Get Ya Mind Right” and “Trap or Die,” featuring Bun B. Additionally, a standout track titled “Air Forces,” produced by the legendary Mannie Fresh of Cash Money Records, further solidified the mixtape’s impact. With our new series, Class Mixtape Run, we are here to bring that feel back like it was 05 all over again! On behalf of Live Mixtapes, listen to it below!
